The Lang Tools Universal Compression Tester (TU-3PB) is an essential diagnostic tool for both professional automotive technicians and dedicated DIY enthusiasts. This high-quality 5-piece analog set is meticulously designed to accurately measure cylinder compression in a wide range of gasoline engines, covering both domestic and foreign cars and trucks. Understanding your engine’s compression is fundamental to diagnosing various performance issues, from identifying worn piston rings and faulty valves to detecting head gasket leaks. The TU-3PB provides the precision and reliability needed to pinpoint these critical problems, helping you maintain optimal engine health and performance. Its thoughtful design prioritizes accuracy and user convenience, making complex diagnostic tasks straightforward and efficient.KEY FEATURES AND BENEFITS: Universal Engine Compatibility: Designed to test compression on a vast array of gasoline engines, ensuring it’s suitable for most domestic and foreign cars and trucks, providing broad utility. Professional Accuracy with Secure Connections: Features screw-in adapters equipped with O-rings, which create a tight, leak-free seal. This design is crucial for delivering highly accurate compression readings, surpassing the precision of simpler push-in testers. Enhanced Accessibility and Convenience: Includes a 12-inch long flexible hose and various adapters, allowing you to easily reach spark plug holes in engines without the often tedious process of removing surrounding engine accessories. This significantly streamlines the testing process. Efficient Cylinder Re-testing: A built-in side release valve enables instant pressure release, allowing for quick and seamless re-testing of the same cylinder multiple times without the need to remove the adapter. This boosts efficiency and saves time during diagnostics. Clear and Comprehensive Readout: The 2-1/2″ diameter gauge features a dual-scale dial, providing measurements in both 0-300 PSI and 0-21 BAR. This clear display ensures easy reading and interpretation of compression values, accommodating different measurement preferences.SPECIFICATIONS: Part Number: TU-3PB Brand: Lang Tools (also known as Star Products) Set Quantity: 5 pieces Gauge Diameter: 2 1/2 inches Hose Length: 12 inches Included in Product: Compression Tester Gauge with 12″ Flex Hose 14mm short solid adapter 18mm short solid adapter 14mm long flex adapter 18mm long flex adapter 14mm long reach adapter HOW TO USE: Prepare the Engine: Ensure the engine is at normal operating temperature, then shut it off. Remove all spark plugs from the engine. Disable Ignition/Fuel: Disconnect the ignition system (e.g., coil packs or distributor wire) and disable the fuel system (e.g., pull the fuel pump fuse or relay) to prevent the engine from starting or fuel from entering the cylinders during the test. Attach Adapter: Select the appropriate screw-in adapter for the cylinder you are testing. Thread the adapter firmly by hand into the spark plug hole. Do not overtighten. Connect Gauge: Attach the main gauge unit with its flexible hose to the screwed-in adapter. Ensure a secure connection. Perform Test: Have an assistant crank the engine for 5-7 compression strokes (or until the gauge needle stops rising). Note the highest reading on the gauge. Record Reading: Record the compression reading for that cylinder. Release Pressure: Press the side release valve on the gauge to release the pressure, returning the needle to zero. Repeat for Other Cylinders: Disconnect the gauge from the adapter, remove the adapter, and move to the next cylinder. Repeat steps 3-7 for all remaining cylinders. Compare Results: Compare the readings from all cylinders. Significant variations (typically more than 10-15%) between cylinders can indicate an engine problem.BENEFITS OF USING LANG TOOLS UNIVERSAL COMPRESSION TESTER (TU-3PB): Accurate diagnostics for identifying internal engine issues like worn rings or blown gaskets.
