Overview

The DEWALT 20V MAX 22-in. Pole Hedger Trimmer is a cordless pole hedge trimmer built for trimming tall hedges, deep shrubs, and hard-to-reach landscape overgrowth without fighting a cord. This is a pole hedge trimmer designed for extended-reach hedge trimming and shrub shaping. Model Number: DCPH820B. If you already run on the DEWALT 20V MAX platform and need more reach than a standard hedge trimmer can give you, this is the tool that fills that gap.

What matters here is how the numbers translate to actual yard and property work. The 22 in. hardened steel laser-cut dual-action blade gives you enough cutting length to cover more hedge face per pass, while the 2,800 strokes per minute blade speed helps it move through dense growth without feeling slow or draggy. DEWALT rates it for branches up to 1 in. thick, which is a meaningful number for overgrown hedges and woody seasonal growth that would bog down lighter trimmers.

The reach is the big reason most people buy a tool like this. With up to 12 ft. max reach when fully extended, the DEWALT DCPH820B lets you work hedge tops, tall privacy rows, and the back side of wide shrubs from the ground in many situations. That means less repositioning, less ladder work, and better control when you are trying to clean up a long run of hedges instead of making a few quick cuts.

The articulating head is not a throwaway feature. DEWALT gives you 7 positions across 180 degrees, so you can set the blade angle to match the cut instead of twisting your shoulders and wrists to match the tool. For topping hedges, that helps you keep the blade flatter. For side trimming, it helps you keep the cutter head lined up with the face of the hedge. For awkward growth around fences, landscape borders, or deeper shrubs, that extra adjustment range saves time and usually leaves a cleaner finished shape.

This tool is also set up for real job flow, not just spec-sheet bragging. It is cordless, battery powered, and sold as a tool only unit, which makes sense for users who already own DEWALT 20V MAX batteries and chargers. You are not paying again for power sources you may already have, and you can keep battery rotation consistent with the rest of your DEWALT outdoor power tools and cordless equipment.

In day-to-day use, the build is aimed at outdoor maintenance where reach and blade control matter more than compact size. The long pole format helps you access height and depth, the blade sheath protects the cutter when stored or transported, and the included shoulder strap gives you another support point when you are making long trimming passes. This is not a replacement for a compact handheld hedge trimmer in tight ornamental work. It is the better choice when the problem is height, distance, or overgrowth that is annoying to reach safely.

Who should buy it? Landscapers, grounds crews, property maintenance teams, and homeowners dealing with mature privacy hedges will get the most out of it. It also makes sense for DEWALT users who want one cordless system across lawn and garden tools. If your usual trimming job involves standing flat-footed and reaching overhead, stretching across a hedge line, or cleaning up tall shrubs after a season of growth, this pole hedger solves that problem directly.

Trim Tall Hedges from the Ground

If hedge tops are the part of the job you dread most, this is where the tool earns its keep. The long reach lets you shape higher growth without climbing up and down a ladder for every section.

• Up to 12 ft. max reach when fully extended
• Built for trimming tall hedges and landscape overgrowth

Set the Blade to the Cut

The articulating head gives you better working angles on hedge tops, sides, and deeper sections where a fixed head forces awkward body position. That usually means cleaner lines and less fatigue over a long run.

• 7-position head with 180 degree articulation
• Helps match blade angle to the shape of the hedge

Made for Fast, Clean Cutting

The blade setup is aimed at real trimming performance, not light touch-up duty. A long hardened steel blade and fast dual-action cutting motion help the tool move through thicker hedge material with less snagging.

• 22 in. hardened steel laser-cut dual-action blade
• 2,800 SPM with up to 1 in. cutting capacity

Tool Nut’s Take

Tool Nut’s Take

DEWALT 20V MAX 22-in. Pole Hedger Trimmer for people tired of fighting tall hedges

This is the right buy when your regular hedge trimmer works fine on the bottom half of the hedge and completely runs out of reach on the top half.

• Who it’s for: DEWALT 20V MAX users, landscapers, and homeowners maintaining tall privacy hedges, mature shrubs, and overgrown property lines.
• Why it stands out: The mix of up to 12 ft. reach, a 22 in. dual-action blade, and a 7-position 180 degree articulating head makes it much more useful than a fixed-head pole trimmer.
• Worth knowing: This is a bare tool, so plan on supplying your own battery and charger. Also, like most extended-reach trimmers, it is built to solve access problems first, not replace a compact handheld trimmer for tight detail work.
